Vogue 1247 Rachel Comey Outfit

There was a reason why I was in such a hurry to finish up my orange skirt last weekend. I wanted to wear it on my mini vacation in Sedona.

The skirt sits slightly above my natural waist. The length is 4" longer than the original pattern. (Blogged here.) I like its A-line shape. It is not too triangle yet so comfortable - especially when I sit. Driving in this skirt was no problem at all.

For the detail on the top, please go to my previous post.

I came to realize that basic skirt did not have to be in neutral color. This orange skirt is surprisingly versatile. I can match many of my tops with this skirt because my top often includes orange in its design.

I did not do Hong Kong finish on seam allowance but lined the skirt instead. I loved the result. I even wished I had made this skirt reversible.

Lining: J Crew cotton lawn from Sawyer Brook.
(I blogged about those fabrics here.)

I will post some pictures from Grand Canyon trip next time. Until then, cheers to you all!

  1. What a gorgeous outfit. I love this pattern but unfortunately I am a 10 on top and a 12/14 on the bottom. I hate the way Vogue does that !!

    1. Lisa, it's probably easy to adjust this skirt pattern. I'd suggest making a muslin in 12 and add some room at side seam if needed. Waist band is just a long rectangle so it's easy to modify. :)

  2. The lining is wonderful. A nice lining is like wearing really lovely underwear, you know it's there whether anyone else does and it makes you feel wonderful in your clothes. On another note, so happy to see a picture of you. It's nice to have a face to go along with the posts.

    1. I totally agree with you on lining, Rhonda. Adding a beautiful lining is a true luxury. And after reading your comment I was glad that I posted the picture of myself in the outfit. Thank you!

  3. You look great Yuki. The lengthened skirt is so flattering.
I always feel the super short length obscures the great pocket details. Also, I agree with you that orange is very very versatile.

    1. Yes, orange is such a great color! At first I thougth the skirt in orange all over could be little too much, but boy it worked. I should pay more attention to solid color fabric from now on as I tend to skip those and just look at gorgeous print. Thanks for your comment, bela.

  4. We both chose "unusual" colors to make this skirt. I think we chose right =) I love yours in orange!
